An Ethiopian chick does an 8 minute video to explain how desperate Black American women are, and how the average African American woman is not an “eligible woman” *yawns*… Check it out:

She just reminds me of a lot of many folks of different races & cultures who simply don’t like Black Americans. I had to click off the actual video & just listen to the audio of this chick. Its just something about her FACE that irks me.. Maybe its how she smiles when she speaks, or it could be how her mouth barely moves while she’s talking *shrug*…

It’s Black History Month! Even though we should celebrate it ALL THE TIME – Folks, lets take out some time every day this month to teach our children & peers about at least one important Black leader or person, who has made History. Sure we know about Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and Harriet Tubman, but lets venture out past these great leaders. Let’s discuss the other honorable names such as: Marcus Garvey, Hattie McDaniel, Nat Turner, Septima Clark, Vivien Thomas, and so on… There are hundreds who have made an impact in Black history and culture. Lets actually take time to do some research, get out & mentor, volunteer, help one another, and educate our children as well as ourselves.

If you haven’t seen I Love My Hair yet, hurry up & hit play, and read the rest afterwards!

Question… Where was this Sesame Street skit when I was a lil girl? lol.. Seriously though, this song was too cute and I couldn’t help but post it. I like the fact that I Love My Hair teaches little Black girls to embrace and love what they have on top of their head. I can go on & on about Black Hair, but I’m going to get into the meaning behind this particular song. “I Love My Hair” was actually written by a Father to his young Daughter, because she wanted what she saw that is pushed so much into today’s society… Straight hair.

Joey Mazzarino, the head writer of Sesame Street, is also a Muppeteer who wrote the song for his daughter. Mazzarino is Italian. He and his wife adopted their 5-year-old daughter, Segi, from Ethiopia when she was a year old.

Mazzarino says he wrote the song after noticing his daughter playing with dolls.

“She wanted to have long blond hair and straight hair, and she wanted to be able to bounce it around,” he tells NPR’s Melissa Block.

Mazzarino says he began to get worried, but he thought it was only a problem that white parents of African-American children have. Then he realized the problem was much larger.

In writing the song, he wanted to say in song what he says to his daughter: “Your hair is great. You can put it in ponytails. You can put it in cornrows. I wish I had hair like you.”

That simple message has caused an outpouring of responses from women. Mazzarino got a call from an African woman who told him the song brought her to tears. “I was amazed, ’cause I sort of wrote this little thing for my daughter, and here this adult woman, it touched her,” he says.

Mazzarino says he’s happy to report that Segi loves the song — and her hair. – Source

I think that it’s important that we love the hair that we already have. There’s nothing wrong with relaxing or straightening your hair, but we should also cherish what God has blessed us with.. Naturally.

Lord knows, I’ve been working HARD on eliminating the “N” word from my vocab, but every once in a while I come across that ONE person who asks for it. I define the “N” as someone who is ignorant or ignant. This speech by this 11 year old boy (Johnathon McCoy) is really powerful. Its somewhat old, but it still needs to be heard. Take a listen!

After the Vanity Fair featured their “New Hollywood” issue, which triggered controversy due to its lack of ‘color’, a movie publicist by the name of Arian Simone was motivated to publish Fearless Magazine. Fearless Magazine is dedicated to the Fun, Fly, and Fabulous “trendsetting women who have endless love for urban culture”. The debut issue admires the women of color, who work of Young Hollywood today, including Kyla Pratt, Tia Mowry, Lauren London, Monique Coleman, Naturi Naughton, Jennifer Freeman, Chyna Layne and Tiffany Hines. Check out the behind the scenes footage from the “The Fearless Class of 2010″ shoot:
